The durability of hardwood flooring is amazing. We are so proud to be a family-owned business in the state of Minnesota that has such an excellent tradition in homes with hardwood flooring. Hardwood flooring literally lasts for generations.

You don’t have to take our word for it. There are many historic homes in Minnesota that are very significant and all of them have hardwood flooring. We would like to say we installed some of these floors or that our great grandparents did, but heck, even though our family has been working with hardwood flooring for decades, we were not even born yet when some of these homes were built. That is how long hardwood flooring lasts!

The Oldest Homes in Minnesota

The oldest home that is still standing in Minnesota is the Henry Sibley House located in Mendota. It was built in 1835! This home was built to last.

During 2015, the oldest home in the Twin Cities area of Oakdale was put up for sale for a very reasonable $325,000. It is a 150-year old Victorian-style home built in 1865. It has a fourth-story lookout to see if there were any imminent attacks coming from Native Americans. The basement has five-foot walls because of the fear of tornadoes in the area. The kitchen flooring is six-inch wide planks of Minnesota yellow pine because of the Civil War effort at that time had used up all of the available oak.

One of the most visited historic homes in Minnesota is the Gleensheen Mansion that sits on the edge of Lake Superior and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The home has stunningly beautiful hardwood flooring in the master bedroom.
