It has a fourth-story lookout to see if there were any imminent attacks coming from Native Americans. The basement has five-foot walls because of the fear of tornadoes in the area. The kitchen flooring is six-inch wide planks of Minnesota yellow pine because of the Civil War effort at that time had used up all of the available oak.
One of the most visited historic homes in Minnesota is the Gleensheen Mansion that sits on the edge of Lake Superior and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The home has stunningly beautiful hardwood flooring in the master bedroom.
